All-State Chorus Rules/Regulations

Attendance Policy
As stated in the All-State Acceptance and Participation section of the GMEA Handbook
Students are required to attend all rehearsals and the performance. Students who are tardy will be moved to
the back of the section or dismissed from the event by the Division Chair.

Code of Conduct
A singer who, for any reason, violates the Rules of Behavior or Code of Conduct, creates a disruptive
situation for the chorus and the conductor. Therefore, the organizing chairperson is instructed to place any
student on automatic probation for a first offense. A second offense involving a disregard for the rules means that
the student will be brought before the GMEA Choral Division Chair and/or the GMEA Vice-President for All-State
to determine if the student will be removed from an All-State Chorus for violating any of the rules listed below.
1. A singer must be on time for all rehearsals and the performance. A student may not be tardy for any
reason. If directors and chaperones are providing transportation, they must take the responsibility for
getting the students where they need to be on time.
2. All singers must comply with the dress code.
3. For great music to happen, the singer must:
     a. get rid of gum before rehearsals
     b. be seated prior to the starting time of rehearsals
     c. use proper posture during rehearsals
     d. listen and refrain from extraneous conversations during rehearsals
     e. have a pencil in hand during rehearsals
     f. be attentive to the details of the music during rehearsals
     g. not use cell phones/electronic devices during rehearsals
     h. be respectful to the guest conductor, choir organizer, and choir members at all times
4. All singers must be aware that the GMEA night curfew will be enforced.
5. All singers will be responsible for their own:
     a. music
     b. pencil
     c. proper concert attire
     d. BLACK folder for the performance
6. CREED OF THE ALL-STATE SINGER:
MY PRIMARY GOAL FOR BEING AT ALL-STATE CHORUS IS TO GIVE MYSELF AND OTHERS AROUND ME THE
OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE THE BEST MUSIC POSSIBLE. ALL OTHER REASONS ARE SECONDARY TO MY PRIMARY
GOAL.
